I don’t like lettuce

Written on May 5, 2008. Written by lorene.

I brought my lunch into work today. It’s sliced grilled chicken, feta and grape tomatoes over spring mix lettuce with some balsamic vinaigrette.  I like the chicken, feta and tomatoes but I realize more and more that I dislike lettuce. When I get a salad from the cafateria here I eschew the lettuce in favor […]

Shamrock Shakes

Written on March 17, 2008. Written by lorene.

One of the best things about St Patrick’s Day is Shamrock Shakes at McDonalds. Mmm…minty. Apparently I’m not the only one who loves them. There’s a website out there to help you track down a McDonald’s that has them. And apparently the NYC franchises voted not to carry them. Sick bastards!

Yummy Thanksgiving

Written on November 24, 2007. Written by lorene.

I spent most of wednesday night baking for Thanksgiving.
My contribution was a maple spice cake with maple cream cheese filling and chocolate ganache.

Then I made a couple Aunt Rose’s Pumpkin Pies.

And lastly the BEST COOKIES EVAH - Walnut Cookies. They may not look like much but fights break out over these when my aunt […]

$14500 Dessert - Cheats to Gain Most Expensive Title

Written on September 25, 2007. Written by lorene.

The Fortress Resort in Sri Lanka is claiming the title (and tons of free press) of world’s most expensive dessert. However in my mind it’s cheating if you throw say…..a $14,490 jewel into your dessert. Inedible “ingredients” shouldn’t count.
Sorry Sri Lanka. Same goes for those $10000 martinis that come with rubies and such. No […]

Eating at Ming II

Written on April 18, 2007. Written by lorene.

I went out to dinner tonight at Ming II in Morristown. It’s a pan asian restaurant owned by the family that owned Moguls. Well Moguls closed and they opened up a restaurant “complex” in Headquarters Plaza. There is Mehndi, an Indian restaurant, SM23, a bar and lounge, and Ming II. The original Ming is in […]

Ben & Jerry’s goes “right wing”

Written on February 14, 2007. Written by lorene.

Ben & Jerry’s announced they are launching a new flavor - “Stephen Colbert’s Americon Dream”. It will balance out the liberal flavors like Wavy Gravy and Cherry Garcia with vanilla ice cream swirled with fudge-covered waffle cone pieces and caramel.
Mmmm..democracy.

a chocolate culture?

Written on July 28, 2006. Written by lorene.

There was an article on Gothamist today about the opening of Max Brenner Chocolate by the Bald Man.
Apparently Max Brenner wants to create a “culture of chocolate”. Well that sounds good to me.
This restaurant is on Broadway between 13th and 14th, and conviently just a few blocks from my office! There are regular menus but […]

Volvic Water?

Written on July 18, 2006. Written by lorene.

Today they were handing out bottles of Volvic Water at the PATH. I’ve seen this brand before but I’ve never purchased it.
Why? Well because swap out the o with another vowel and it just sounds dirty to me.
I got the Natural Orange flavor and its pretty tasty.
