Asiatic Lilies

I decided to take advantage of the one non-rain day this week to divide our Asiatic lilies.  We planted 2 (or maybe 3) single plants 2 years ago that we bought at the Land-of-Evil.  This year 13 lilies came up.  I couldn’t find anything decisive online about when to divide them so I figured I’d just dig one up and find out.

The bulbs for Asiatic lilies are kind of onion/garlic looking with lots of small lobes. As I dug the lilies up they pretty much just broke apart as needed. So I replanted them spaced out and in 2 rows. I ended up with 5 pieces of bulbs which I stuck in a pot. We’ll see if they come up.

I also decided to divide the Stella D’oro as it was a big clump. It roots kind of like a tigerlily so it was easy just to pull it apart and replant.

I hope the rain holds off a bit this weekend as I really want to get my bamboo lattice up. I’ve decided to attach that directly to the house rather than putting in posts. I also want to cut back several forsythias that have a lot of dead wood. I have read that you can cut them down and they’ll come back a lot better. I need to make my hypertufa trough too!
