I saw in WWD headlines the other day that Burberry is suing Iconics, the maker of London Fog, for infringing on its plaid. Apparently London Fog is introducing new jackets and accessories with this burberryesque plaid.

I went to the Short Hills mall last night and decided to go check these controversial jackets out in Macy’s. The Double Breasted Trench Coat goes for $100. I tried it on and it looked ok. Nothing stunning. There’s a removable liner that has a black/white/blue plaid that I would never have associated Burberry unless I’d read about the lawsuit. Certainly I would not mistake that coat for the $900 one I looked at in the Burberry store.

Alas, I am on the hunt for a great trench coat. I’m willing to spend some money. I think I need to head up to Woodbury Commons and see what the Burberry Outlet has. As for the $100 London Fogberry one, well maybe if it was $60 I’d buy it. As my friend pointed out it could definitely use more shape and the tan color is rather washed out.
