Blueberry wine & Bubba Ho Tep

Vanessa and I decide that we want to make some fruit wines. We’re going to try blueberry when they come in season and are ridiculously cheap. Then maybe cranberry or something else. I did and inventory of our winemaking equipment and we found some recipes. We decided to make a 3g gallon batch rather than a 5 galloon which means we need a new carboy. So yesterday we went to Corrado’s in Clifton. The wine/beer supply is huge and filled with some very pricy equipment ($4000+!). They didn’t have the 3g carboys but we did pick up some additive stuff and yeast. I’m going to order the carboys online. I’m thinking of going for the plastic ones which are only $5 more than glass and just as good. I’ll probably even save the $5 on shipping. After that we went over to check out Corrado’s Market. If you miss the defunct International Food Mart in Jersey City you should check this place out. It’s not as big but it’s got tons of stuff and a lot of odd ball things. They had fruits and veggies I’ve never seen before and it was all very cheap. They have a crazy fish department and a huge cheese section. I bought some melon and lobster ravioli and headed home.

I spent last night cleaning my kitchen and watching Bubba Ho Tep. It stars Bruce Campbell (woo BC!) as a Elvis impersonator who thinks he’s Elvis (or else is actual Elvis who swapped lives with the impersonator). There is a mummy sucking the souls out of the residents of their nursing home. So Elvis pairs up with a black man who thinks he is JFK, or rather has JFK’s brain, to defeat the mummy. It’s a very low budget film and the beginning is sort of slow, but I really liked it. But then, I love BC.

I started making some Mango gelato. It’s chilling in my fridge waiting to be put in the ice cream maker.
