At the Pier A Walk In Movie

I checked out Crash at the Hoboken Movies Under the Stars last night with Colleen. We didn’t get to the pier until maybe 8:50 so it was rather full. We put down our blanket towards the back but where we weren’t too blocked out by people in chairs. I brought popcorn. Plus it was a really nice cool, even cold, night.

The movie was good, but in that sort of atmosphere its hard to watch movie with so much going on. I tend to think the more over the top comedy movies are better for this venue. Whenever there was a dark scene I couldn’t make out what was happening. Anyway, as I remarked it was a movie filled with lovable characters and the message I got from it is don’t trust cops.

Notes on MUTS (aka movies under the stars).

  • Bring a low beachy type chair. It sucks for the people on blankets if you have a big chair, but sitting on the ground for 2 hours isn’t comfortable. I have to go home and find my chair and C’s going to buy one.
  • Bring booze! I saw plenty of people with wine and beer bottles and the bike cops (don’t trust ‘em!) weren’t doing anything about it. Although I think on a nice hot night I’d bring some margaritas.
  • Get there early. It’s probably worth getting there early staking out your spots and sending someone out to pick up dinner. The screen they use isn’t very big for how far away people can sit. I’d love to see them project the movie on the side of the ferry terminal instead. But at least the sound was loud enough.

Next week is The Producers. We’re planning on going so let me know if anyone wants to meet up.
